Will MAA change the AIME cutoffs?

Resolution Criteria

The MAA AMC program determines AIME cutoff indexes each year, and once the cutoffs are set and announced, they will not be changed. This market resolves YES if the MAA announces a change to the AIME qualification cutoffs (the AMC 10/12 scores required to qualify for AIME) for any future competition cycle. This includes changes to the percentage-based thresholds (currently top 2.5% for AMC 10, top 5% for AMC 12) or the numerical score cutoffs. Resolution will be based on official announcements from the MAA at https://maa.org/student-programs/amc/. The market resolves NO if no such change is announced.

Background

AIME qualification parameters vary with AMC 10 and AMC 12 results, with invitations issued to at least the top 2.5% of AMC 10 scorers and at least the top 5% of AMC 12 scorers. As of August 2025, AMC to AIME cutoff policies changed, where international students will now not affect the cutoff. The limit of 120 does not exist anymore, so theoretically it can go up to 150.

Considerations

The MAA has demonstrated willingness to modify competition policies—the recent change to exclude international students from cutoff calculations represents a significant policy shift. However, the MAA Council on American Mathematics Competition may change program rules and regulations, with competition managers notified of changes whenever possible. Any future changes would likely be announced well in advance.
