Passkeys eliminate the need to enter your old-school password(s) all around the web to login. Instead you can login by using the same face, fingerprint, or PIN used to unlock your device. This is easier and safer compared to using easy to guess / hard to remember passwords.

Many companies started to enable passkeys for their users including Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, Meta, PayPal, X, LinkedIn. The majority of devices already support passkeys today. At the same time most users are not yet using this feature.

Meaningful adoption means at least 25% of users across popular sites / companies use passkeys instead of passwords on the related platform.

Resolution will be based on media reporting from reliable sources, including speciality blogs by end of 2024.

I more than welcome suggestions on metrics and sources. Passkeys is a topic I plan to learn more about in 2024. I may adjust resolution criteria and sources based on common feedback. For example I am not sure what current adoption rate is. My gutfeel tells me adoption is low but can't find concrete numbers, only on supported devices which is high. I might start a separate poll on that. Let me know if you have a sense.
