MIT, Harvard, and Penn were famously in the news for having their presidents lambasted at a Congressional hearing for alleged anti semitism on their campuses. In the past, negative attention in the press on campus conditions such as crime or sexual misconduct has led to temporary declines in applications, which result in higher admission rates. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-02-02/jewish-students-skip-harvard-penn-applications-after-hamas-israel-controversy

This market is about whether each of the undergraduate schools will have a higher ADMIT RATE than reported in 2023.

MIT: 4.80% admitted in 2023 https://mitadmissions.org/apply/process/stats/

Penn: 5.84% admitted https://www.thedp.com/article/2023/12/penn-early-decision-results-class-of-2028#:~:text=At%20a%20Board%20of%20Trustees,48%20states%20and%2097%20countries.

Harvard: 3.41% accepted https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2023/3/31/admissions-decisions-2027/#:~:text=Harvard%20College%20admitted%203.41%20percent,cycle%20at%207%20p.m.%20Thursday

I may add more schools if there’s enough interest. They don’t need to be necessarily Israel/Palestine related, just if people expect a substantial difference from last year.

Conversely, AI purports to know the admit rate 5.87 (just slightly higher than last year’s 5.84):

The University of Pennsylvania's (Penn) Class of 2028 had an acceptance rate of just over 5.87% when including early and regular decision applications. This was based on an estimated 3,300 students being admitted out of 65,230 applicants for those rounds. Penn also received 8,500 applications through early decision, but did not disclose the acceptance rate for that round.

The admitted students for the Class of 2028 came from 109 countries, all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Marshall Islands, and the military APO. The class also included one of the largest groups of students from Philadelphia and 19% first-generation college students.

Resolved MIT based on this, please post any other evidence for Penn and Harvard https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/mit-regular-action-decisions-now-available-online-7/

Please understand that this is in no way a judgment of you as a student or as a person, since our decision has more to do with the applicant pool than anything else—many of our applicants are not offered admission simply because we don’t have enough space in our entering class. This year we had more than 28,000 candidates for fewer than 1,300 offers of admission. Since all of our decisions are made at one time and all available spaces have been committed, all decisions are final.
