What should I do in San Francisco before moving away?

After two years, I’m moving out of San Francisco, tentatively 11/1/24. This market is to give me suggestions on things to do before I leave.

If I’ve done something already, doing it again is an acceptable option but less likely than doing something for the first time.

Important things about me:

  • Late 20s male

  • Live in the Mission/Bernal Heights/Castro area

  • 9-5 remote job, can probably do a handful of things during work hours but not many

  • Don’t drive but could rent a car; bike frequently

  • Wouldn’t spend more than $75 on an activity unless it was really worth it; some of the best experiences I had here were free

  • Stuff I could do with my partner is a plus but not necessary

  • Most interested in things that would be hard to experience in other cities, and things that would be more enjoyable now than a theoretical future period where I live in SF but older with kids

  • Go sing a song at Martuni‘s on a weekend night— you can probably walk there (get a lemon drop while you’re there)

  • Get psylocibin mushrooms from one of the “churches” in SF (eg The Living Church SF)

  • Attend 4/20 on Hippie Hill in the GG Park

  • Go play dice with the bar owner and win/lose drinks at Buddha Bar in Chinatown

  • Drive down Highway 1 to Santa Cruz/Monterey— very scenic on a sunny day. In Santa Cruz stop for ice cream at Marianne’s on Ocean st.

  • Take a surf lesson in Pacifica or Ocean Beach
