Israeli GDP per Capita passed Sweden's for the first time in 2023 (it's possible it may have dipped back down since due to the war).

This question is meant to be a proxy for "is Israel doomed or fine in the long term"

  • Update 2025-02-10 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Nominal Metric Clarification:

    • Resolution will be based on nominal GDP per Capita of Israel and Sweden, not on a PPP basis.

Nominal or PPP?

@nathanwei just want to mention that if it’s nominal and not PPP, the deciding factor would most likely be li be the ILS/EUR exchange rate at the end of that year, rather than actual economic performance.

@Lemming yes, explicitly nominal

Statista predicts Sweden remains higher

But trying to dig into why, it seems like (a) they're using a different source than google/Wikipedia which has Sweden higher in 2023 (I'm confused by this). But more importantly, their future projections just seem to assume continuous growth for both Israel and Sweden. But this is a weird assumption - Israel's had continuous growth in the past, but Sweden hasn't had growth since the 2007 economic crisis.
