Pope Francis became Pope in 2013. He has passed the ten year mark and already lasted longer in the job than his predecessor who famously resigned from the position rather than staying on until his death.

There are a few ways that Pope Francis could stop being Pope:

• He could die. This has been the usual way out of the job for most of the past 600 years.

• He could resign. This was seen as rare and shocking, but his predecessor has now set the precedent that Pope Francis could resign if the 87 year old Pope Francis doesn't feel that he is up to the job any more

• The Papacy could be abolished.
