I've lost multiple excellent spots in the last few years. So I want to know: which if any am I in danger of losing next?

Resolves to YES if the location is listed on Google Maps as 'Permanently Closed' or they otherwise indicate they are permanently closed, or something else opens in their location, and moving exception does not apply.

Also resolves to YES if it sufficiently falls off a cliff in quality, or radically alters its offerings, such that it might as well not exist anymore from my perspective. Price increases cannot (within reason) trigger this.

Exception is that if they move to a new location, and that new location is not in practice substantially farther from Madison Square Park than its current location (e.g. <50% additional travel time, or still within 0.5 miles, happy to clarify particular cases on request).

Resolves to NO if the place remains open.

If there are multiple locations, this refers by default only to the location listed or to the one closest to Madison Square Park, unless otherwise stated.

If there is a place you think SHOULD be one of my favorites and isn't, please do comment about that!

Let me spice this up a little: I know of one of the above that has indeed closed and will resolve YES (and it isn't Joe's)! But I think it's more fun to not trade on or say which one it is. I'll resolve when it's trading in the high 90s.


(Aslo one more is temporarily closed, and I'm hoping it is indeed temporary)

The good news is I've definitely found more places to add to the list than that, so net positive!

Wow, this list of favorite restaurants is almost entirely unfamiliar to me! May trade on it later but presently have no info.

Some of my favorites in Manhattan (mostly not that near Madison Sq Pk, that's not really an area I'm that familiar with) are:

Farida (central asian, fidi)

Casa Carmen (mexican, oaxaca-leaning maybe, downtown)

Tonchin (ramen, midtown)

Ravagh (chill persian grill, grand central)

Breads Bakery (union sq+more)

Heritage Grand Bakery (bryant park)

Jiang Nan (duck, chinatown)

Russ & Daughters (bagel fish sandwiches)

This list excludes places that I like but would not go to on a tuesday / with kids. COTE is kind of fancy but actually very kid friendly ime.

@stranger Neat! What do you get at Breads Bakery? So far I haven't been that impressed. The only one on the list I've been to is Russ & Daughters, seemed like a more-expensive version of what you get in many other bagel places? E.g. I get that dish at Brooklyn Bagels by default, or sometimes Ess-a-bagel. And my wife likes Ravagh but isn't blown away. I don't know the others here. But I love seeing such lists!

@ZviMowshowitz breads: tuna salad sandwich - delicious similarly to how eataly's is delicious, and doesn't upset my stomach unlike eataly; ruglach - flaky and very good, and keeps for days without getting much worse; bread. My fave bread is Shewolf Bakery, which is at farmers markets (including Union Sq), but it's kind of overpriced. R&D salmon+roe sandwich (daughter's delight) is very good in my opinion; similar fish to Shelsky's which I forgot to mention but is also great. I would say the R&D + Shelsky's are both fish places that serve the fish on bagels, not bagel places, although their bagels are pretty good. Ravagh is not amazing but is pretty good, consistent, and serves fesenjan; I wouldn't say it blows me away but it is where I eat kebab in midtown and leave happy + it delivers well.

I forgot Tengri Tagh Uyghur Cuisine in midtown, which is basically like northern chinese food with no pork in it, and is also in the "good, consistent, delivers well, not stunningly amazing or anythign though" category with Ravagh.

I'm pretty price-insensitive with bagel places/bakeries/etc because I want to pay for my favorites to keep existing.
