Numbeo has created an index to track the quality of life in cities. This index takes into account:

  • Purchasing Power Index

  • Safety Index

  • Health Care Index

  • Climate Index

  • Cost of Living Index

  • Property Price to Income Ratio

  • Traffic Commute Time Index

  • Pollution Index

In the 2023 data we see that the top 5 US cities are:

  1. Jacksonville, FL

  2. Orlando, FL

  3. Tampa, FL

  4. Portland, OR

  5. Raleigh, NC

It seems that cities in Florida are doing quite well due to their high Purchasing Power Index and low Property Price to Income Ratio, Traffic Commute Time Index and Pollution Index. The goal is to predict which city will be at number 1 (of the US cities) in the ranking in the 2030 data. This will depend heavily on the steps taken by these cities in the coming years to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants.

We do a little trolling…

I wonder if climate change will already have a significant impact on the "climate index" of these cities by 2030. I think it is quite hard to predict which cities will be most impacted by climate change.
