This might sound like another vaporware story but getting away from screens in devices is a trend I am interested in seeing whether it takes hold, especially as Humane's AI pin ( https://hu.ma.ne/media/humane-names-first-device-humane-ai-pin ) is scheduled to be launched later this year. I'm also interested in the design of consumer hardware more tailored specifically to leverage AI.

Resolution criteria:

Must be available for purchase by consumers through retail channels or official online platforms.

The release date should fall on or before December 31, 2029.

I haven't put any restrictions on the type of hardware device since there are so many edge cases, but it should be for use by the average consumer (not an industrial or very sector specific product).

If they use a third party to aid in the design, development, or manufacture of the hardware side of the device this may still resolve Yes (as it might be difficult to disentangle what the hardware contributions were). If they only create a new app or operating system, but it does not result in a new device that exclusively uses their software, this will resolve NO (in other words, this goes to the tailoring idea where if it is generic software that can be put on the same IOS or Android smartphones it is not going to satisfy the spirit of a new hardware device).

Resolution Criteria for Collaboration:

  1. Collaboration refers to a formal partnership or joint effort between Jony Ive and Sam Altman in which both individuals contribute to the development of the hardware device or provide financial investment or financial help in its development.

  2. The collaboration should be publicly announced and officially confirmed by credible news sources.

  3. Contribution by the development of the device include (but is not necessarily limited to) their involvement in the device's design, development, decision-making, or technical or strategic contributions. These types of contributions should take place after the announcement of the partnership/effort (the current brainstorming and discussions mentioned as rumors in the above article now don't count since there is nothing official yet). It will be difficult to narrow down on the time length for this type of contribution necessary to satisfy, but it should be multiple months (not days) so I will use my best judgment (i.e. listed on a company web page or news sources mentions their efforts for multiple months counts as contributing).

  4. Financial investment either as an individual or through organizing seed/series funding all satisfy collaboration for the individual. (This might be easier for Sam Altman to satisfy.)

Resolution timing:

Note: This market will not resolve before 2030 (this includes the case where it seems from news stories that the venture is abandoned). There are some potential edge cases, such as if they start collaborating but one or both of them dies and the product still gets released, in which cases I will use by best judgment to determine if they have met the criteria for collaboration.
