Will I manage to do a single one-arm pull up (unassisted) before the end of 2025?

I won't doxx my complete physical stats but I have a climber-ish physique, although I do not currently climb. I can do about 15 consecutive neutral-grip pull ups, and a couple of reps of "one arm plus one finger" pull ups on either arm. I have a pull up bar at home, and am in the habit of using it whenever I walk past. I am also in the habit of randomly forgetting about my habits...

There was a similar market by @Fion which has some good advice in the comments, which I'm linking for future reference: https://manifold.markets/Fion/will-i-manage-to-do-a-onearm-pull-u

I will only bet YES in this market, and not sell before resolution.

Have you done weighted pull ups? Do you have a 1 rep max?

@Fion great question, never tried before but I did just now. 42% of body weight (in a rucksack). My form was not great, chin barely cleared the bar.

@retr0id hmm, ok, this might be really hard. I'm only going on my own experience, but I think to go from where you are now to doing a one armer by the end of the year will be a real challenge. (I think I was at about 60% at this point.) But having said that, this was the first time you tried it, and you were using a rucksack (which is harder than a dipping belt or a climbing harness), so probably you'd have a bit of easily accessible gains.

One thing I'm sure about is that you won't get to a one armer just by doing lots and lots of bodyweight pull ups. Even one arm plus one finger might not help much if you have strong fingers. In my opinion, weighted pull ups are your best friend. Second best is one hand on the bar and the other hand holding a resistance band looped over the bar.

@Fion ty, I think I'll invest in a dipping belt. If I don't make it on time I'll just make another market lol

And yes my fingers are pretty strong so the one-finger is able to do a reasonable share of the lift.

How have you been progressing so far this year?

@MartinSundhaug I haven't been tracking it with any precision, but I have made progress. When I first got the pull up bar a few months ago, the most I could do was about 7

Do train in other ways regularly and are you practicing this somewhat consistently?

@LiamGallagher I do other callisthenics and dumbbell exercises, but pull-ups are my main focus at the moment (I know it's not a great idea in general, but overspecialising in one field is appealing to me!). I don't have any fixed schedules/routines but overall I'd say I practice regularly.
