Wikipedia article for the Carrington Event

For the sake of the question, "another Carrington Event" is defined as a storm with a Dst of -1000 nT hitting the Earth.

Would the civilian electrical grid either (1) not come down, or (2) be fixed and usuable again by most people within 7 days?

This market won't resolve unless the event in question actually occurs. The question should be interpreted relative to when you are reading this, rather than relative to when the market was begun.

Is it possible for such an event to hit "the world" without it hitting "the U.S."?

This is partially me asking out of ignorance of whether or not this is possible, but if it affects another country, but the the U.S. appears like nothing happened, does it count?

@Quroe I'm basically clueless about this subject, which is the main reason why I'm making these markets about this topic. If I find out the answer to your question I'll write it here in a reply.

bought Ṁ50 NO

How does this market resolve if we get an event which is weaker than the Carrington Event but stronger than any event since? This is probably more likely than a Carrington Event repeat.

@SaviorofPlant A solar storm weaker than the Carrington Event wouldn't count. Thanks for pointing out that "another Carrington Event" is vague. I'll add this to the description.
