Trump announces Tariff pause on Truth Socail

Context:

  • Israel removed all tariffs on America prior to Liberation Day and still got a 17% tariff

  • Netanyahu (Israeli prime minister) met with Trump on the 7th of April

  • Israel has a 18% VAT (Trump dislikes VATs, and has previously said that he'll tariff countries that charge them)

Resolves YES if the tariff rate for Israel is 0% on May 1st:

  • Product/category specific tariffs do not count, only a general tariff on Israel

  • The new rate must be implemented, not just announced

  • Update 2025-04-09 (PST) (creator comment):

    • A change to 0% during May 1st in will count as YES

Clarifying an edge case: it's a YES if the tariff rate changes to 0% during May 1st (Washington D.C. Timezone)

@Shai That's not really "by" May nor does it reflect when the market closes.

I edited the title and the close date.

I chose this to be consistent with the description saying 'on May 1st'.

bought แน€10 NO

The "must be implemented" part is what hard kills the Yes for me.

bought แน€20 NO

Jumping up to 84% here is a ridiculous overcorrection, he's still keeping the 10% even now and Israel has to protect its settlements from being unprofitable

bought แน€500 NO

Just now a reporter asked Trump if he's planning to reduce the 17% tariff on Israel and Trump said "Hmmm.... maybe not". good enough for me to invest in NO

bought แน€10 NO from 61% to 60%

@Shemetz Maybe the key to having your negotiating partners think you're crazy is actually being crazy.

Israel's PM is saying "we will make efforts to fix the trade deficit between israel and the united states" (paraphrased), and I think he said something about "removing the tariffs"? nothing about timelines though

Meeting happening right now!

Israelโ€™s VAT is 18%

@Lemming my mistake
