Answers need to be in this format: YYYY-MM. Close date updated to 2030-01-01 1:01 am May 26, 11:24am: The game I'm referring to is: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen The question will be resolved as soon as the developers say Star Citizen has entered Beta. Usually, this is when a game is feature complete, although I assume that with this game, development will continue long after the full game has been released.

Does this include the Persistent Universe or Squadron 42? Both? Whichever comes first?

@DawnPaladin persistent universe

How will you resolve this if none of the answers are exactly correct?

@DawnPaladin I will resolve to the closest 2 answers proportionally.

Video games with the longest development times on record all seem to clock-in around 15 years. Although the sample size is very small, this makes me think that 15 years is probably a typical duration of development for video game studios that want to take their sweet time and get everything right. From what I can tell, Cloud Imperium is very reluctant to commit to anything until all their ducks are in a row, so I think it will probably take about 15 years for them to get all their ducks in a row, at which point they will feel comfortable announcing a beta release. Websites give lots of conflicting advice on when is the best time to release a video game, and it's even more difficult to find good advice for beta releases. However, Chris Roberts is the project lead on Star Citizen, and looking over his past projects, it looks like most of his films and video games have been released in the Spring or Summer. In the absence of any better information, I think the beta release window might be sometime between Spring and Summer, given the biases in Roberts's track record. Of course, this is a total shot in the dark, so I'm only betting M$10.
I'm confused upon googling star citizen I find this game https://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen It seems to have been out for a while already and has some sort of launch week coming up for Invictus? Can you clarify which game you are talking about in the description and what you mean by "beta" (closed/open)? Thanks!
@DavidChee I don't think "beta" is synonymous with "playable." Beta releases are usually more-or-less finished, but the developers might still be adding "stretch-goal" features, fixing software bugs, or making adjustments based on player feedback. OP didn't specify how the market would be resolved, but I assume it's something like: "This market is resolved based on *when the developers SAY* they've released a quote-on-quote 'beta.'"

@Smikes yes.
