As of early 2024, most programmers spend most of their time sitting while working, with alternative methods being niche. Some such niche examples are standing desks or treadmills, or VR smartglasses with a (handheld) keyboard or voice input.

Ideally, alternatives to sitting could offer the ability to be physically active while working, without sacrificing efficiency or comfort.

Resolution criteria (provisional; feedback wanted):

This market resolves NO if a credible poll done in 2029 reports that more than 10% of programmers don't spend the majority of their time sitting while working. This market resolves YES if no such polling result occurs that year.

Update:

I've added the word "mostly" to the title to better reflect the resolution criteria.

The thing is the keyboard you need palm rests, palms supported need arm support. Can anything do away with the keyboard?

Are there analogous stats for now? I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already near or under 90 with the prevalence of standing desks

@SunilOcara good point. I found this on the bureau of labor statistics:

On average, electricians spent 9.8 percent of the workday sitting, while computer programmers sat for 95.7 percent of the workday.

But I didn't find any polls directly about the criteria for this market.
